KUWAIT: The government filed several lawsuits against chairmen and members of Kuwait's football, volleyball, basketball and swimming associations demanding compensation for what it described as their actions that led to the suspension of Kuwait sports activities. The government asked for an initial KD 5,001 compensation from each association pending further demands of KD 400 million that had been spent on sports in the past five years.
The case brief said that Kuwait Football Association (KFA) had missed the deadlines to contest the suspension decisions before international courts, and thus deliberately brought damage to Kuwait sports activities, leading to suspending them and defaming Kuwait worldwide. The case brief also noted that the Kuwait Olympic Committee had conveyed false messages to the International Olympic Committee concerning sports laws in Kuwait, claiming that the government interferes in sports. - Al-Qabas
