KUWAIT: Director General of the National Fund for Small and Medium Enterprise Development, Adel Al-Hasawi, stressed on Wednesday the need for government agencies to cooperate with civil society to motivate entrepreneurs and encourage national cadres to start their own businesses.

Hasawi said in a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) Tuesday on the sidelines of the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the fund and the Federation of Kuwaiti Professionals and Business Associates for Small and Medium Enterprises at the fund's headquarters that the government provides support to the initiative and their projects in all sectors through financing, incubation and consulting, indicating that the role of civil society is complementary and essential to the government.

President of the the Federation of Kuwaiti Professionals and Business Associates for Small and Medium Enterprises Sheikha Dr Hessa Saad Abdullah Al-Sabah said the agreement aims to develop and support small enterprises and help entrepreneurs to enhance the role of this important and vital sector in the Kuwaiti economy.

She stressed that the union has been striving since its inception to encourage entrepreneurs to find creative solutions and motivate Kuwaiti youth towards starting their own businesses and working in the private sector by providing various job opportunities and supporting their initiatives and ideas and turning them into projects on the ground in line with Kuwait's development goals.

Hassawi noted the fund's current efforts to continue supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in Kuwait, to get out of the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, which had catastrophic effects on the sector in various countries of the world. He explained that the fund is keen to revive this important and vital sector to help Kuwaiti youth establish their businesses and economic activities to benefit the national economy and contribute to diversifying sources of income.

Sheikha Hessa added that the federation and the fund have the desire to strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation in several areas that concern small and medium-sized entrepreneurs. She pointed out that signing the agreement aims at exchanging experiences, ideas and information in the field of small businesses. – KUNA
