KUWAIT: The criminal court yesterday sentenced a former Central Tenders Committee (CTC) member in absentia to 10 years in prison with labor, dismissal from office, mandating him to return the sum of KD 290,000 and fining him twice as much. The court also sentenced the owner of an automobile company to four years in jail and suspended the sentence with KD 4,000 in bail. It also acquitted an employee of the same company in a case filed against them by the Public Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha).

According to the case, the three defendants were involved in bribery related to a tender to purchase ambulances for the Ministry of Health (MoH), where the first suspect received a bribe in the form of three vehicles worth KD 148,000 from the automobile company delivered by the third suspect to approve its offer to win the tender.

Type one diabetes
Lawyer Nasser Al-Ajmi announced that the administrative court yesterday mandated the disability authority to consider his client's daughter, who suffers from type one diabetes, as disabled, after the authority had rejected her demand.

January subsidies
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) yesterday announced that the total subsidies paid for subsidized consumer goods and construction materials in January was KD 20.5 million including KD 12.3 million for basic foodstuff, KD 552,000 for milk and baby formula and KD 8.2 million for construction material.
