KUWAIT: A large number of fish and shrimp baskets seen at Souq Sharq's fish market.

KUWAIT: The headof Kuwait Fishermen Union Thaher Al-Suwayyan told Kuwait Times that fish areavailable in the market in large quantities, especially shrimp and Kuwaitimullet, which is helping lower prices.

Kuwaiti shrimpinclude Um Naira, a large-sized shrimp, and Shahamia, a desirable varietybecause of its medium size. "The number of shrimp baskets at Souq Sharq

reached 1,100, including 818 baskets of Um Naira and 282 basketsof Shahamia," he pointed out.

Suwayyan notedthat the market has a huge number of mullet and shrimp baskets, adding there isdemand by consumers, and prices will likely fall. "On Eid, prices rangedbetween KD 50 to 55 for an Um Naira shrimp basket, KD 25 to 30 for Shahamiashrimp and KD 18 to 32 for a 25-kg basket of mullet," he noted.
