KUWAIT: The first edition of the Al-Ghanem showjumping competition that was held at Kuwait Riding Club was highly competitive between riders from all local clubs, and had record attendance of spectators as well as riders, who reached 70 of both genders in some rounds, particularly in the intermediate category, which is promising for the equestrian sport.
Competitions in greater heights also witnessed good participation by riders, an indication the sport is getting more popular in Kuwait despite the extremely high costs borne by riders and their families in bringing in horses and having long summer camps.
Competition director and member of the higher organizing committee, rider Jassem Al-Khalfan, said major support from competition patron Jassem Abdulaziz Al-Ghanem and competition idea presenter, rider Badriya Jassem Al-Ghanem, in addition to the attendance of several VIPs including Badriya Yousuf Al-Ghanem, Khawla Yousuf Al-Ghanem, Sheikh Dr Ibrahim Al-Duaij and Talal Abdelaziz Al-Ghanem, supported the riders.
