KUWAIT: EQUATE Petrochemical Company, Kuwait's first international joint-venture in this industry, has issued its first Sustainability Report as per the Guideline 4 (G4) set by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).
EQUATE has issued its first Sustainability Report for the year 2011, and has since then published more comprehensive GRI compliant reports. In addition, the 2014 Sustainability Report has set precedence in Kuwait by completing GRI's Materiality Disclosures Service regarding the feedback of EQUATE's stakeholders on its sustainability efforts and other applicable items.
GRI is an international independent organization that helps businesses, governments and other organizations understand and communicate the impact of business on critical sustainability issues such as climate change, human rights, corruption and many others.
EQUATE President & CEO Mohammad Husain said, "The title for our 2014 Sustainability Report of 'Making the Impossible Possible' is based on EQUATE setting a new world record in maintaining and updating petrochemical plants by finalizing a full-scale Turnaround (TA) within 30 days. With the participation of over 10,000 employees and contractors, EQUATE has realized the first of its kind international achievement by completing all operations within a record-time for petrochemical plants based on global standards.
We have witnessed additional success in 'Making the Impossible Possible' with other world-class achievements, such as being the first company to realize a number unprecedented milestones locally, regionally and globally. The achievements included establishing Sweater Cooling Towers, applying Highly Reliable Organization (HRO) principles, initiating Plant Water Recycling Project, executing Six Sigma program, as well as obtaining Responsible Care accreditation and certification."
Husain noted, "For EQUATE, sustainability is a core strategic objective. It is applicable to every aspect of the company, and not a mere term or expression. EQUATE realizes the importance of sustainability to ensure being 'Partners in Success' with all stakeholders who represent individuals, organizations and communities, such as employees, their families, customers, shareholders and members of societies. In addition, sustainability is a key element in EQUATE's overall value creation for the benefit of individuals, economic growth and environmental protection."
Husain added, "EQUATE is not only a producer of petrochemicals, it is a fully integrated world-class organization that aspires for sustainable excellence by benefitting from the advantages of combining innovation and industrial expertise with competent human resources, technological breakthroughs, rich feedstock, and valuable infrastructure. We are fully committed to sustaining solid partnerships with our stakeholders in How We Conduct Business, Our Impact on the Economies Where We Operate, Our Community, Environmental Stewardship, Our People and Quality in Our Operations, within and outside Kuwait."
