KUWAIT: The Diplomatic Women's Committee - Kuwait prepared an online program to celebrate Kuwaiti Women's Day, which was announced by the late His Highness the Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The event is celebrated on May 16 to mark the day Kuwaiti women won their political rights, especially rights to elect and vote.
The honorary chairperson of the Diplomatic Women's Committee, Sheikha Halah Bader Muhammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, offered her gratitude and congratulations to Kuwaiti women for their true courage, spirit, and determination in fighting for their rights, and for their contribution as front-liners in the war to combat COVID-19. Sheikha Halah said, "Our program today is to honor Kuwaiti women for the great efforts they have made standing side by side with their male counterparts."
Also participating in the online program was Secretary-General of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters Kamel Abdul Jalil, who congratulated Kuwaiti women and narrated parts of their strong role in society. Dr Ahmed Al-Shatti, Director of the Capital Health District, reviewed the strong role of Kuwaiti women to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, especially the role of doctors, who have been working 24 hours with critical cases. He praised the women front-liners for sacrificing their time, health and families in order to protect others. "Indeed, Kuwaiti women deserve to be honored," he stated.
The Ambassador of the French Republic to Kuwait Anne-Claire Legendre participated by in a video message speaking about the role of Kuwaiti women and their efforts working for the sustainable development programs, serving their nation and contributing to its prosperity and development.
In a video message by the Vice President of the United Nations Office (UNDP), Hideko Hadzialic mentioned that Kuwaiti women were distinguished in all their social, cultural and political activities to serve the Kuwaiti society. Members of DWC, the lady diplomats accredited to the state of Kuwait shared their gratitude and congratulation messages for the remarkable achievements of Kuwaiti Women in all aspects of life with pride.
At the end of the program, Diplomatic Women's Committee's Advisor Nargis Al-Shatti spoke about the historical role of the Kuwaiti woman for the struggle of their rights and their sacrifices during the brutal Iraqi invasion in 1990, when they bravely defended their country. She said women were able to write an illustrious chapter in the history of Kuwait filled with many honorable stories.
