KUWAIT: Deputy Kuwaiti Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Sheikh Jarah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah attended the 43rd ASEAN Summit’s opening session, held earlier on Tuesday in the Indonesian capital Jakarta. Sheikh Jarah Al-Sabah attended the ASEAN session on behalf of the Foreign Affairs Minister Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who received an invitation from Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi.
Meanwhile, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has decided to grant the Kingdom of Morocco the status of sectoral dialogue partner. The decision was made during the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia, according to a statement released by the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates on Monday.
By virtue of the decision, Morocco becomes the first North African country to enjoy the status of sectoral dialogue partner of the ASEAN, which strengthens the Kingdom’s status as interlocutor for this significant economic and geopolitical grouping, the statement noted. The move reflects the wise vision of King Mohammad VI for opening up and diversification of partnerships with regional blocs, it added. The just-ended ASEAN ministerial granted the same status to South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. - KUNA
