KUWAIT: HH the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah marked the third year since assuming office on Sept 29, 2020, where Kuwait witnessed a new era of constant developments. After 14 years of the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s rule, HH Sheikh Nawaf, who was then the Crown Prince, took his constitutional oath before the National Assembly as the 16th Amir of the State of Kuwait. HH the Amir Sheikh Nawaf received a message from HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, expressing congratulations on the third anniversary of HH the Amir’s taking the helm of power.

HH the Crown Prince, in the cable, expressed sincere felicitations and cordial sentiments on the occasion of HH the Amir ascending to the top post, wishing him lasting good health and praying to the Almighty to keep him “as the father and supporter” of the people of Kuwait. HH the Crown Prince recalled, on the glorious national occasion, the comprehensive achievements that have been made during His Highness’ era in various fields, affirming that Kuwait, with steady steps, would head for further development and prosperity.

“We also renew the declaration of allegiance to pursue fulfilling the tasks faithfully behind your sagacious leadership for the sake of promoting our precious homeland,” HH Sheikh Mishal wrote to HH Sheikh Nawaf. In return, HH the Amir sent a letter to HH the Crown Prince, expressing gratitude for his brotherly feelings, manifesting identical wishes for him and the homeland. In his early years, HH the Amir was known for his hardworking personality and various achievements, which later reflected on his political journey, where he succeeded in every position he served in. HH the Amir started his political journey as the governor of Hawally in Feb 1961, serving until March 1978, when he was appointed as the minister of interior, and in 1988 as minister of defense.

After Kuwait’s liberation from Iraq, HH the Amir Sheikh Nawaf was appointed in the new government as minister of social affairs in April 1991 and served in the post until Oct 1992. In Oct 1994, HH the Amir served as deputy chief of the National Guard, until July 2003. During his service in the National Guard, he contributed to further training and preparations of guards to maintain Kuwait’s peace and stability. Following his appointment as minister of interior in 2003, an Amiri decree was issued appointing him as First Deputy Prime Minister until 2006, when he was named Crown Prince of Kuwait.

Upon assuming his rule, HH the Amir pledged to follow in the footsteps of the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah by maintaining national unity and protecting stability and security, as well as completing the Kuwaiti mediation process of uniting Gulf Cooperation Council member countries and strengthening pan-GCC dialogue at the 41st GCC Summit, hosted by Saudi Arabia in 2021.

HH the Amir Sheikh Nawaf also received congratulatory messages from National Assembly Speaker Ahmad Al-Saadoun, HH the Chief of the National Guard Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah and HH Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah. Among the senior and ranking officials and figures who expressed good wishes to HH the Amir on the national occasion was HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, who wished His Highness wellbeing, praying that he may remain Kuwait’s sagacious leader and mastermind of its development. In return, HH the Amir sent letters to the well-wishers, voicing identical wishes for them and the homeland.

The ministers of defense and interior also congratulated HH the Amir Sheikh Nawaf on the third anniversary of assuming office. First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled Al-Sabah expressed wishes of good health and welfare on this glorious occasion. The minister affirmed that ministry members would continue to safeguard Kuwait’s security under the watchful eye of the leadership, vowing to continue efforts to protect citizens and residents alike against any harm or danger. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah wished HH the Amir good health and evermore success in leading the country.

He vowed that personnel at the ministry of defense would continue to follow the guidelines set by the leadership to achieve more security for Kuwait and fend off any harm that might be directed towards the people. HH the Amir Sheikh Nawaf received a cable from Moroccan King Mohammad VI expressing congratulations on the third anniversary of His Highness’ taking the helm of power. The Moroccan monarch expressed good wishes to HH the Amir and Kuwait. Reciprocating, HH the Amir addressed a cable to the king, expressing wholehearted gratitude for the good sentiments, lauding the historic and brotherly relations between the two countries, wishing him lasting wellbeing and his country utmost prosperity.

Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Jasem Al-Budaiwi congratulated HH the Amir Sheikh Nawaf on the third anniversary of assuming power. In a statement, Budaiwi wished happy returns of this occasion, which has many achievements and development in all domains, thanks to Allah and the wise leadership. He also wished Kuwait further progress and HH the Amir everlasting well-being. President of the Arab Parliament Adel Al-Asoumi congratulated HH the Amir Sheikh Nawaf on the third anniversary of assuming power. In a statement, Asoumi wished HH the Amir everlasting well-being, and Kuwait permanent progress.

Asoumi recalled development achievements made in Kuwait in all domains, thanks to HH the Amir’s wise leadership and vision. He commended Kuwait’s role led by HH the Amir in the Arab region, mainly in light of global economic and political challenges. The top Arab lawmaker further extolled the Kuwaiti role in healing rifts and settling disputes in the region that contributed to boosting the country’s distinguished status on Arab, regional and international levels. – KUNA
