KUWAIT: A firefighter tackles a blaze in a garage in Sharq on Sunday.

KUWAIT: Municipal Council member and chairman of the technical committee Fahd Al-Sane proposed a speedy clearing of Sharq industrial area in order to rectify the situation and remove violations there. His call came one day after a blaze engulfed a garage in the busy commercial district of Kuwait City which is also home for some of the tallest skyscrapers in the state's capital.

Sane said that lands in the area are being used for commercial purposes in violation of what they are originally licensed for, explaining that many buildings are used as stores for tires and other highly inflammable material without care for safety conditions. Furthermore, he demanded that the situation must be corrected, as plots are divided into several stores carrying out several activities without a license. He said there are also construction violations there.

'Fake doctor' lawyer remanded in custody

The public prosecution decided to detain lawyer Hani Hussein for 21 days and send him to the central prison over false information about the case of a Bangladeshi doctor who he claimed had impersonated a Kuwaiti physician. The 'fake doctor' was a main topic of rumors which spread in the past few days over social media, and attacking the health ministry.

Road opening

The engineering sector at the Ministry of Public Works (MPW) is preparing to open the service road towards Kuwait City from crossroad C10 till the crossroad C11 with a length of 1.150 km during the first week of August. Sources at the ministry said the opening is part of a project to construct and maintain roads and crossroads on the western part of Jamal Abdul-Nasser Street, which is being executed at a total cost of KD 34.934 million. The service road opening will serve traffic coming from Doha towards Kuwait, while the traffic light at C10 will be removed, the sources added.
