KUWAIT: Co-organized by Kuwait University and UNESCO, a conference on the preservation of Kuwait's cultural heritage opened in Kuwait on Monday. Addressing the conference, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at the College of Social Sciences at Kuwait University, Dr Mohammad Al-Sahli said that the college organized this conference to shed light on social and cultural topics internationally and locally.
He added that Kuwait is keen on keeping their national cultural identity through books, voice records, pictures and various tools as well as personal efforts from institutions in charge of preserving heritage items. Professor of Archeology and Anthropology at Kuwait University, Dr Hassan Ashkanani, said that the conference aims to highlight the various aspects of cultural heritage and the state of its preservation in Kuwait.
He also noted that the conference will discuss several ways of preserving heritage especially in Kuwait, adding that panels will explore opportunities and challenges related to cultural heritage and its role in promoting innovation and creative industries.
In her speech on behalf of the Director of UNESCO Office in GCC and Yemen Anisa Harfoush said, "We aim to engage more with Kuwait, especially in the field of cultural heritage, as it is the basic essence of the global humanitarian role." Harfoush expressed her happiness in cooperating with Kuwait University to learn about the Kuwaiti cultural heritage and ways to protect it. - KUNA
