KUWAIT: Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Anas Al-Saleh briefed the Cabinet on the latest anti-narcotics operation carried out by the Interior Ministry, which led to the confiscation of 270 kilos of shabu (methamphetamine) at Shuwaikh Port, the largest attempt to smuggle the drug in the history of the country.
The Cabinet ministers commended the operation and the cabinet called for honoring of members of the security forces and customs for their vigilance. This came during the Cabinet's weekly meeting Monday, chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet was briefed on the fourth annual report regarding the number of laborers in the workforce according to citizenship, educational level, and sector. Furthermore, the gatherers were informed about environmental violations and hazards facing firefighters and government workers assigned in South Khaitan and Sulaibiya agricultural areas as well as other locations such as the Al-Naeem scrapyard.
A government committee consisting of several entities was formed to look into the matter, taking necessary measures to provide safety for firefighters and government employees as well as preventing violations and holding people accountable for them. The meeting also touched on the issue of water surfaces and seepage in Sabah Al-Ahmad residential area, forming a committee to tackle the problem.
In the meantime, the Cabinet discussed the national diwan of human rights' first annual report for 2019, commending the committee assigned to review the document. The Cabinet affirmed that the document contributes to the betterment of the humanitarian situation in the country. The Cabinet also touched on the report connected with the government educational system in preparation for the 2020-2021 school year.
The report included a proposal to form a high committee tasked with steering the educational process during the current COVID-19 pandemic. The win by President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris in the US election was discussed during the meeting with the Cabinet congratulating the two officials. - KUNA
