KUWAIT: The Cabinet held its weekly session at Seif Palace on Monday under chairmanship of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. Following the session, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Anas Al-Saleh stated that the ministers expressed sincere congratulations to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on the sixth anniversary of his designation by the United Nations as Leader of Humanitarian Action along with naming Kuwait Center of Humanitarian Action.
The UN had made the gesture in gratitude of His Highness' contributions worldwide at the level of philanthropic aid, praying to Allah Almighty to safeguard His Highness the Amir, cure him as soon as possible and facilitate his comeback to the homeland to pursue the march of development and progress. On September 9, 2014, former UN chief Ban Ki-moon granted the titles to His Highness the Amir and the State of Kuwait in admiration of the wide-scale philanthropic contributions and aid for nations afflicted with violence and catastrophes.
COVID-19 update
Addressing the session, Minister of Health Sheikh Dr Basel Al-Humoud Al-Sabah talked about the local status of the novel coronavirus in terms of counts of the casualties, the recuperated and the deaths. He noted a noticeable increase in the number of infections with the virus in recent days, which he attributed to "mingling and failure to adhere to health precautions." The Cabinet however praised abidance by the health terms on part of responsible citizens and residents and affirmed its dismay with manifestations of non-compliance such as failure to put on the protective mask and social distancing. It called on citizens and residents not to be complacent and apply the necessary health terms literally.
The ministers examined the health services provided in the fight against COVID-19 with respect of treatment and logistics and decided to task the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to coordinate with the ministries of health and foreign affairs to arrange transfer of medical teams from Pakistan to Kuwait. They discussed and approved the Arab protocol for combating maritime piracy and armed robberies and referred the relevant bill to His Highness the Deputy Amir and Crown Prince.
They also blessed a bill regarding the agreement for establishing a joint committee for cooperation with South Sudan. Furthermore, they decided to dispatch relief supplies urgently to Sudan to relieve victims of recent floods, and condemned the terrorist act of stabbing in Sousse, Tunisia, affirming support for the Tunisian State in measures it may take to safeguard its security and stability. - KUNA
