LONDON: Deputy Speaker of the British House of Commons Nigel Evans on Sunday praised the solid ties between the United Kingdom and Kuwait in all sectors. Evans made the statement ahead of a scheduled visit to the UK by His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Monday to patronize and attend a ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the Kuwait Investment Office in London.
It would be in response to an invitation by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. In this context, Evans said in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that Kuwait and the UK have had very robust relationships that have gotten even stronger, largely due to efforts by the former State of Kuwait Ambassador to the UK, Abdulaziz Al-Duwaisan.
The new ambassador, Bader Mohammad Al-Awadhi, is on the same path, he said, indicating that both he and his ex-peer are advocates of cementing these bonds and promoting cooperation in commerce and investments. Voicing satisfaction that these efforts have been fruitful, Evans affirmed that trade cooperation between the two countries largely grew last year.
His Highness the Crown Prince will be accorded a warm welcome in the UK, he said, describing the Kuwaiti office anniversary as "a historical memory for our two countries. The Kuwait Investment Office (KIO), which is part of the Kuwait Investment Authority, was established in 1953 and is the world’s first sovereign wealth fund. - KUNA
