PARIS: BNK’s Ari Sanchez of Spain won the Greenweez Paris Major Premier Padel title with her partner and compatriot Paula Josemaria at Roland-Garros on Sunday, after beating the team of Gemma Triay and Martita Ortega of Spain 6/2-6/4 in the final. BNK Group is the official sponsor of Ari Sanchez. After a week of elite competition in stifling heat at Roland-Garros, the top two pairs in the world at the moment battled it out for the first ever Paris title.

Up until the semifinal, the top seeds sailed through the competition, giving up just 10 games in three matches. Sanchez/ Josemaria rattled off quickfire games peppered with gorgeous strokes. Their Parisian week has been a fair reflection of a season which has seen them win just about every WPT tournament.

The Spaniards have triumphed in no fewer than ten WPT tournaments this season and suffered only two setbacks, in Rome and Madrid. They were second best to Ortega and Triay in the Italian capital and to Delfi Brea and Bea Gonzalez in the Spanish capital. Sunday provided the opportunity for them to create padel history by becoming the first women to lift the Greenweez Paris Major trophy at Roland-Garros.

The women’s playing style is more subtle and their game often focuses more on precision than power. Women’s padel matches are very tactical, with a slower rhythm, plenty of lobs and very few unforced errors. It is all about patience, which can lead to longer matches.
