The Museum of Islamic Art in Berlin is the largest of its kind in Europe, as well as North and South America, hosting 93,000 items dating back to the Islamic civilization. In 1999, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) listed the Museum in the international heritage, which reflects its antique and important collectables. The two-story museum, built between 1920 and 1930, is part of the Pergamon Museum, and attracts thousands of tourists annually, exhibiting chapters of Islamic history and art. The Pergamon Museum is situated on the Museum Island in Berlin and houses monumental buildings such as the Pergamon Altar, the Ishtar Gate of Babylon, the Market Gate of Miletus reconstructed from the ruins found in Anatolia, as well as the Mshatta Facade. The museum is subdivided into the antiquity collection, the Middle East museum, and the Museum of Islamic art.-KUNA
