Korean Embassy, KU host event to mark opening of Korean language center

KUWAIT: The Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the State of Kuwait and Kuwait University hosted an opening ceremony of the King Sejong Institute (Korean Language Center) in Kuwait University on Monday, Nov 20, 2023. The Institute is the first of this kind in Kuwait.

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea and Kuwait University signed, early this year, a MoU to establish the King Sejong Institute in Kuwait University amid the framework of mutual education cooperation between the two countries.

The King Sejong Institute is a representative national brand established by Korean government that encourages learning of the Korean language around the world. Until the moment, about 250 institutes have been established in more than 80 countries worldwide.

The ceremony consisted of congratulatory remarks by Byung-ha Chung, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, and Dr. Abdulmuhsen Al-Medej, Dean of College of Arts of Kuwait University, followed by the distribution of certificates to students taking the first Korean language course, attended by esteemed members of Kuwait University officials, former Kuwait Ambassador to Korea and key members of the Korean community in Kuwait.

Byung-ha Chung, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, in his welcoming remarks, highlighted the significance of language as a bridge between cultures. He also expected the important role the institute will play in enhancing bilateral cultural exchange and expressed his gratitude to Kuwait University for the mutual collaboration. The King Sejong Institute will offer Korean language courses and programs. Furthermore, the institute will also contribute to deepen our mutual understanding, particularly among young people.
