CAIRO: The Kuwaiti Relief Society and the Egyptian Dar Al-Orman Association signed on Sunday an executive contract worth $500,000 to prepare aid and relief materials for the people of the Gaza Strip via the Rafah land crossing. Member of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Relief Society and the society’s representative Dr Muhammad Al-Sharhan, who signed the contract, said in a statement to KUNA that the contract aims to provide aid and relief materials to the people of Gaza. He noted that the aid includes food supplies, medical supplies, water containers and winter blankets.
Al-Sharhan explained that the value of the aid amounted to $500,000 gathered from donations from the "Fazaa for Palestine” campaign, which was launched by the Kuwait Relief Society, 27 government agencies and other Kuwaiti charitable societies. It received overwhelming support from the government and private charities.
He added that this project comes in line with the high directives of the Kuwaiti political leadership to expand the circle of aid provided to the people of the Gaza Strip, diversify its methods and intensify its quantities. He pointed out that the Kuwaiti Relief Society participated and contributed to the Kuwaiti air bridge to alleviate the suffering of people in the Gaza Strip, noting that the volume of aid that arrived at the Egyptian Al-Arish Airport has reached about 500 tons so far. He explained that the relief aid provided by the air bridge varied between food supplies, tents, ambulances and medical supplies. All of the supplies were delivered to the Egyptian Red Crescent Society, which in turn delivered to its Palestinian counterpart in Rafah.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dar Al-Orman Association Ahmed Al-Jundi said in a similar statement to KUNA that the association has a moral and legal obligation to implement the terms of the contract and provide relief materials urgently for the benefit of the people of the Gaza Strip affected by the Zionist attacks. Al-Jundi expressed his happiness in cooperating with the Kuwait Relief Society in a project to provide aid and relief materials to the brothers in Gaza.
Director of the Kuwaiti Office for Charitable Projects in Cairo Salwa Al-Enezi expressed her gratitude to the Kuwaiti Relief Society for its support and assistance to the Palestinian brothers in the Gaza Strip. Al-Enezi affirmed that Kuwaiti charities are continuing their efforts and relief work to contain the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian brothers as a result of the continued aggression of the Zionist forces.
The heads of the following charitable societies such as the International Islamic Charitable Organization, Al-Najat Charitable Society, the Islamic Heritage Revival Society, the Social Reform Society, the Sheikh Abdullah Al-Nouri Charitable Society, the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, the Kuwaiti Zakat House, the Patient Helping Fund Society, the Direct Aid Society and the General Secretariat of Endowments participated in the project.
Meanwhile, three humanitarian aid airplanes took off Sunday carrying 90 tons of various humanitarian aid to help the people in the Gaza Strip, bringing the total number of flights from the Kuwaiti air bridge to 24. Director of Public Relations and Media Department at KRCS Khaled Al-Zaid told KUNA before take-off that the Kuwaiti relief aid from the Kuwaiti air bridge to date has amounted to about 600 tons through 24 flights provided by all Kuwaiti charitable societies and bodies in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, KRCS, Egyptian Red Crescent and Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS).
Al-Zaid revealed that 90 percent of Kuwaiti relief aid arrived in Gaza. Considering the separation of the north from the south of Gaza by the Zionist forces, it became difficult to deliver aid to the north. However in the southern part, the Palestinian Red Crescent was able to fill the warehouses with various Kuwaiti aid, he explained. — KUNA
