KUWAIT: Kuwait’s Namaa Charity of Social Reform Society and UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Kuwait on Tuesday signed an agreement enabling UNHCR to provide multi-purpose cash assistance to 338 families displaced due to outbreak of conflict in Sudan. Chairman of the Social Reform Society Dr Khaled Al-Mathkoor told KUNA on the sidelines of the agreement that the relief and humanitarian cooperation are deep values in Islamic religion, the verses of which from the Holy Quran underlining the importance of providing assistance and relief to those in need.

He underscored that the partnership between Namaa and UNHCR embodies the Islamic values that seek to help humanity, especially the displaced in Sudan, indicating the grave difficulties they face due to the conflicts and difficult conditions there. In a statement to KUNA, CEO of Namaa Charity Saad Al-Otaibi confirmed that the agreement shows the shared commitment towards improving the conditions of the displaced in Sudan and supporting them in this critical period. Namaa is determined to make efforts to ensure the achievement of the goals specified in this agreement, Al-Otaibi said, pointing out that it seeks to achieve development and well-being for these displaced people.

The world is currently witnessing a noticeable increase in challenges facing people displaced from their homes due to crises and conflicts, especially since they are in dire need of support and assistance to meet their basic needs and preserve their human rights, he explained. Namaa’s educational, health and relief projects in Sudan constitute an essential part of its vision to support young people with education that will enable them to create a better future for themselves and their society and defying various conflicts, he added, stressing that the agreement is an example of how to continue collective humanitarian work to give to the world.

Speaking to KUNA, UNCHR’s Representative to Kuwait Nisreen Rubaian commended the humanitarian partnership with Namaa, which reflects Kuwait’s solid commitment to help the forcibly displaced. On his side, Director of the Department of Charitable Societies and Foundations at the Ministry of Social Affairs Abdulaziz Al-Ajmi told KUNA that the ministry is keen to continue the international agreements supporting refugees, noting that displacement has reached several countries, including Egypt, Chad and Ethiopia. — KUNA
