KUWAIT: The ministry of commerce said on Wednesday that a national food reserve with the ministry is sufficient for over six months, as the ministry stepped up its preparations amid the ongoing military conflict between neighboring Iran and the Zionist entity. Director of the supplies department at the ministry of commerce and industry Salah Al-Rasheedi said that national reserve of essential and secondary goods is sufficient for over six months and the situation is satisfactory and assuring.
Kuwait has beefed up its contingency plans following the breakout of hostilities on Friday, and authorities have focused attention on combating nuclear radiation and chemical hazards, in addition to ensuring enough supplies of food and other essential goods. Al-Rasheedi said the department has a strategic plan in place for emergencies, which focuses on ensuring smooth supplies and the availability of sufficient quantities.
He also said the situation is normal, purchasing by the public has not increased and all items are available at supply centers, adding the department conducts daily inspections of supply centers to ensure they have enough items.
Meanwhile, the emergency committee of the Public Authority for Industry held a meeting on Wednesday to discuss precautionary measures to be taken in light of the regional war. Acting director general Jarallah Al-Dossari said the meeting stressed on the need to provide protection to large factories that house strategic reserves of food, water and medicine, and ways to provide protection to employees. He added emergency teams and evacuation plans have been activated, while the authority has created a hotline for faster response in case of emergency.
