Kuwait Embassy joins US Memorial Day celebrations

WASHINGTON: A delegation from the Kuwaiti Embassy in Washington on Monday participated in Memorial Day celebrations, an annual occasion to honor American service members who died on duty. “The sacrifice that they made was not merely for a single battle, a long-ago victory or a fleeting triumph decades or centuries past. Their sacrifice was for today, tomorrow and every morning thereafter,” US President Donald Trump said during the ceremony held at Arlington National Cemetery near Washington.

“In every hour of peril and every moment of crisis, American warriors have left behind the blessings of home and family to answer their nation’s call... This morning, we pay tribute to their immortal deeds,” he added. Memorial Day is an annual occasion to honor fallen soldiers “who sacrificed their lives for the nation” in various American wars. It is held every year on the last Monday of May.

The US president and senior political and military figures attended ceremonies held at Arlington National Cemetery, where thousands of American soldiers are buried. At the same time, military parades were held on Constitution Avenue, which passes by the White House. Among those attending these parades, attended by a delegation from the Kuwaiti Embassy, were the retired secretary of the army, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and other senior military and political figures. — KUNA
