Informatics Award launches 10th edition of ‘Shft Al-Kuwait’

KUWAIT: The Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award has launched the 10th edition of its cultural competition, “Shft Al-Kuwait” (Arabic for “Did You See Kuwait?”), in cooperation with Sadu House, as part of its silver jubilee celebrations. Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee, Bassam Al-Shammari, told KUNA on Tuesday that this year’s edition features daily questions posted over a 10-day period on the Award’s and Sadu House’s Instagram and Facebook accounts, drawing wide participation from audiences both within Kuwait and abroad.

Participants are invited to answer six questions centered on the traditional Kuwaiti craft of Sadu weaving. Correct responses qualify entrants for a prize draw, with 50 winners each receiving $1,000, totaling $50,000 in prizes. Commenting on the collaboration, competition supervisor Sheikh Salem Athbi Al-Sabah said the partnership between the Informatics Award and Sadu House enriches the contest by merging cultural heritage with modern technology. He noted that the initiative offers an interactive platform to highlight Sadu weaving—a symbol of Kuwait’s deep-rooted traditions—while engaging younger generations through digital means.

Sheikh Salem emphasized that the initiative reflects the strength of Kuwait’s cultural ecosystem, where institutions join forces to launch national initiatives that bolster the country’s regional and international presence. He added that the Award seeks to further develop partnerships to support digital culture and preserve authentic Kuwaiti heritage. Launched in 2010, the “Shft Al-Kuwait” competition continues to leverage social media to promote cultural awareness and education, while offering valuable incentives that inspire greater community engagement. — KUNA
