Minister welcomes naming Jerusalem as capital of Arab women

KUWAIT: Minister of Social Affairs and Minister of State for Family and Childhood Affairs Dr Amthal Al-Huwailah said the designation of Jerusalem as the Capital of Arab Women for 2025–2026 is a tribute to the enduring courage and pivotal role of Palestinian women in resisting occupation and preserving national identity.

In a speech delivered virtually during the official announcement ceremony, Al-Huwailah praised the decision as a landmark recognition of Palestinian women’s strength in the face of hardship and occupation, describing them as a symbol of dignity and a source of inspiration for the Arab world. “This declaration highlights the honorable journey of Palestinian women who continue to raise generations, protect their heritage, and confront oppression with resilience,” she said.

Al-Huwailah reiterated Kuwait’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, affirming that Kuwait's leadership, government, and people stand firmly with Palestine in all international and regional forums. She emphasized Kuwait’s commitment to supporting Palestinian women in various fields, including education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and social protection. The minister also called for developing regional programs tailored to assist women in conflict zones, particularly in Palestine. She urged the activation of civil society organizations to provide psychological, social, and economic support to Palestinian women.

Concluding her remarks, Al-Huwailah congratulated the Palestinian people on this recognition and expressed hope that it would serve as a pivotal moment in advancing the rights and visibility of Palestinian women. The decision to name Jerusalem the Capital of Arab Women for 2025–2026 was made during the 44th session of the Arab Women’s Committee under the League of Arab States, held recently in Cairo. — KUNA
