Kuwaiti military delegation visits Italy to boost ties

KUWAIT: A high-level Kuwaiti military delegation, headed by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense Sheikh Dr Abdullah Mishal Al-Sabah, and including Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Army Major General Sabah Jaber Al-Sabah, the Chief of Armament and Supply, the Commander of the Air Force, and the Commander of Salem Al-Sabah Military Base, conducted an official visit to Italy.

According to a statement by Kuwait’s Ministry of Defense, the delegation, during its visit from April 20 to Friday, met with Italian Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto. Sheikh Abdullah Al-Sabah conveyed the greetings of Kuwait’s Minister of Defense Sheikh Abdullah Ali Al-Salem Al-Sabah, along with wishes of continued prosperity and success for Italy. Sheikh Abdullah also expressed, on behalf of the government and people of Kuwait, sincere condolences on the passing of Pope Francis.

The ministry added that Sheikh Abdullah held an official meeting with his Italian counterpart, Matteo Perego di Cremnago, where they discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation—particularly in cybersecurity and the development of advanced defense capabilities—as well as several issues of mutual interest. During the meetings, Sheikh Abdullah praised the strength of Kuwaiti-Italian historical relations, emphasizing that they are deeply rooted in decades of strategic partnership.

The ministry further noted that the delegation visited Leonardo company in the city of Turin, where they toured the Eurofighter aircraft production line designated for Kuwait. The delegation reviewed the stages of production and the advanced technical capabilities of this aerial defense system. Additionally, the delegation visited a number of Italian defense industry factories and companies to observe the latest technologies and equipment used in defense and military systems. The meetings were attended by Kuwait’s Ambassador to Italy Nasser Al-Qahtani and Kuwait’s Military Attaché Brigadier General Khaled Al-Shallal. — KUNA
