Italian ensemble ‘Quintetto Denner’ enchants with concert

KUWAIT: The Italian ensemble Quintetto Denner, one of the most renowned quintets specializing in classical jazz, delivered a mesmerizing musical evening in Kuwait with a standout performance at the American University of Kuwait Theater. The concert, organized by the Italian Embassy in collaboration with the American University of Kuwait, was attended by the Italian Ambassador to Kuwait, Lorenzo Morini, alongside a large diplomatic presence and an enthusiastic crowd of music lovers who responded passionately to the pieces performed.

In his opening remarks, the Italian Ambassador to Kuwait emphasized the depth of cultural cooperation between the two countries. He highlighted culture as one of the most vital aspects of bilateral relations, serving as a bridge for communication and mutual understanding. He further noted that artistic and musical events reflect shared values and foster intercultural dialogue, underlining Italy’s commitment to continuing this collaboration to strengthen ties between the Italian and Kuwaiti peoples.

Blending contemporary classical music with jazz, the ensemble took the Kuwaiti audience on a unique musical journey through their latest project, Italy in Jazz Music. The project reflects the group’s innovative artistic vision, offering a captivating fusion of iconic Italian classical and modern works—from composers such as Antonio Vivaldi, Vincenzo Bellini, and Luciano Berio, to legendary film scores by Ennio Morricone.

What distinguishes Quintetto Denner is its unique ability to bridge the past and present by reimagining classical compositions for their unconventional quintet formation: piano, three soprano clarinets (occasionally substituted with saxophones), and a bass clarinet. This rich combination of timbres and inventive arrangements highlights the distinctive character of each instrument, offering audiences an unparalleled listening experience.

The project continues to evolve, featuring newly commissioned compositions by contemporary Italian and international composers, enriching the modern musical repertoire. Its goal is to celebrate the legacy of Italian music across centuries—exploring its diverse expressions from opera and traditional Italian song to contemporary works—while showcasing the group’s original and imaginative arrangements.

The performance concluded with the piece “Long Live Kuwait”, reaffirming Quintetto Denner’s status as one of the most dynamic and creative ensembles today. Their ability to blend authenticity with innovation delivers a vibrant spectrum of musical colors that captivates audiences.
