Kuwait and Bahrain review alternative sentencing system

MANAMA: A delegation from the General Directorate of Correctional Institutions at Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior conducted an official visit to the General Directorate for the Implementation of Sentences and Alternative Punishments in the Kingdom of Bahrain on Tuesday. The visit aimed to gain insight into Bahrain’s experience in applying alternative sentencing mechanisms.

In a statement, the Ministry of Interior said the delegation was received by Sheikh Khalid Al-Khalifa, Director General of the Bahraini Directorate, along with several senior security officials. The two sides held a coordination meeting to explore avenues for joint cooperation and exchanged views on Bahrain’s key practices in implementing alternative punishment strategies.

During the visit, the Kuwaiti delegation was briefed on the mechanisms adopted by Bahraini authorities in the enforcement of alternative sentences, as well as the legal and administrative procedures involved in managing correctional institutions. The discussions also touched on enhancing correctional systems and the significance of adopting alternative punishment approaches. Both sides stressed the role of such systems in achieving restorative justice, alleviating pressure on detention facilities, and maintaining social and security stability. — KUNA
