Italy ambassador stresses international solidarity to counter global instability

Defense cooperation remains a ‘cornerstone of bilateral relationship’

KUWAIT: Italy is seeking to deepen its diplomatic and defense ties with Kuwait, with upcoming official visits and new areas of cooperation in the pipeline, according to Italian Ambassador to Kuwait Lorenzo Morini. Speaking on the sidelines of a cultural event titled “Murano Glass and the Venice Carnival” - hosted in partnership with the International Women’s Group (IWG) - Ambassador Morini said preparations are underway to welcome Kuwaiti delegations to Italy in the coming weeks, with reciprocal visits by Italian officials expected soon after.

Morini emphasized that defense cooperation remains a cornerstone of the bilateral relationship, pointing to the Eurofighter program and joint efforts within the international coalition against Daesh. Italian military personnel currently stationed in Kuwait continue to collaborate closely with local authorities. “These are challenging times,” the ambassador remarked, emphasizing the vital role of international solidarity in maintaining global security and preventing terrorism from gaining ground in vulnerable regions. He stressed the need for strong partnerships with friendly countries to confront rising instability, adding that “peace must be pursued through dialogue - not violence.”

Beyond defense, both countries are exploring broader avenues of partnership. Italian companies are showing strong interest in Kuwait’s current wave of public tenders, particularly in infrastructure, information technology, and the energy sector. Investment flows are also increasing in both directions, reflecting strong economic ties. Morini highlighted the growing presence of the Italian community in Kuwait, particularly in the wake of the pandemic. Professionals from Italy are contributing to a range of sectors including hospitality, oil and gas, construction, and defense. He described this steady growth as a sign of deepening social and economic engagement between the two countries.

“After the coronavirus period, we’ve witnessed continuous growth in the number of Italians in Kuwait, and I hope to see that trend accelerate even further,” he remarked. The evening event, held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, showcased the craftsmanship of Murano glass and the rich traditions of the Venice Carnival, offering guests a glimpse into Italy’s vibrant cultural heritage - a soft power pillar that continues to enrich its diplomatic outreach in Kuwait and across the region.
