KUWAIT: Ambassador Khaled Al-Mughamis, Chairman of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS), reiterated the organization’s commitment to international humanitarian relief efforts in Myanmar following the devastating earthquakes that struck the country in March. The powerful quakes displaced thousands from their villages, leaving many in dire need of aid.
In a statement issued after his meeting with Myanmar’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Chan Aye, on Monday, Al-Mughamis expressed the KRCS’ readiness to provide immediate humanitarian support. He emphasized that aiding those affected by the disaster is not only a humanitarian obligation but also a moral duty. The Chairman further emphasized the society’s willingness to cooperate with various humanitarian organizations to offer relief to those in need.
Al-Mughamis also welcomed Ambassador Chan Aye’s visit to the KRCS headquarters, where the Myanmar diplomat was briefed on the society’s activities and achievements. He expressed hope for deepening the partnership between the two sides to enhance efforts in providing support to those in distress. In response, Ambassador Chan Aye commended the KRCS for its exemplary role in global humanitarian efforts. He highlighted the society’s consistent support for communities afflicted by both natural and man-made disasters. Chan Aye conveyed his gratitude for the KRCS’ swift and effective response in providing relief services.
The Myanmar ambassador explained that the earthquake, which struck the Sagaing region on March 28, resulted in catastrophic damage, claiming over 5,000 lives and leaving millions in urgent need of aid. In addition to extensive property and infrastructure damage, the disaster left the affected populations desperate for relief supplies, medicine, and shelter. The quake, registering a magnitude of 7.7, caused significant destruction not only in Myanmar but also in neighboring Thailand.- KUNA
