Kuwait presents its railway projects to the Arab League

CAIRO: Kuwait presented its strategic transport and railway initiatives on Sunday during a visual briefing at the meeting of the Arab Committee for the Exchange of Experiences in the Field of Transportation, held at the Arab League headquarters. Dr Asmaa Al-Azmi, Director of the Kuwait-Riyadh Railway Project, told KUNA that the presentation highlighted key components of Kuwait’s Vision 2035, focusing on major infrastructure developments in the rail sector. Among the featured projects were the Kuwait-Saudi Arabia railway link and the broader Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) railway integration initiative.

Al-Azmi noted that Kuwait’s participation in the committee meeting provided a valuable opportunity to exchange expertise with fellow Arab countries and gain insights into regional best practices in railway development. “Many participating countries shared their experiences, which helped us shape our own project presentations in a more comprehensive and effective manner,” she said. She emphasized the strategic importance of railway connectivity with GCC countries, citing the anticipated economic and social benefits as vital to regional development.

Al-Azmi further revealed that feasibility studies for the Kuwait-Riyadh railway project have been completed. Additionally, the design contract for the GCC railway link was signed last month, with a one-year timeline before moving into the implementation phase. Kuwait’s delegation to the meeting included representatives from the Ministry of Public Works and the Public Authority for Roads, led by Engineer Mamdouh Al-Enezi, Director of the Railways and Metro Department, along with Dr Al-Azmi. — KUNA
