KUWAIT: The 38th Unified GCC Traffic Week, held under the theme “Driving without a Phone,” officially commenced on Sunday at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in The Avenues, under the patronage of Interior Ministry Undersecretary Lieutenant General Sheikh Salem Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. The event, which includes an accompanying traffic awareness exhibition, aims to foster a culture of road safety and responsible driving across the Gulf region.
In his opening remarks, Lt Gen Sheikh Salem underscored the significance of Unified GCC Traffic Week as a platform to raise public awareness on traffic safety and promote adherence to regulations to safeguard lives. He highlighted the role of such initiatives in cultivating responsible traffic behavior within the community. He also conveyed the greetings and best wishes of Acting Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, expressing hope for the success of the event and its objectives.







Lt Gen Sheikh Salem noted that the week presents a valuable opportunity to strengthen cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the public in efforts to reduce traffic-related incidents and establish a safer, more orderly traffic environment. He further announced that Kuwait’s amended traffic law is set to come into effect on April 22. The updated legislation includes a series of new measures aimed at enhancing road safety and ensuring stricter compliance with traffic rules. — KUNA
