Sports ‘essential lifestyle’ for people with disabilities

Warba Club hosts inclusive Sports Day, celebrating youth with disabilities

KUWAIT: Sports are a fundamental right for individuals with disabilities, serving not only as a form of recreation but as an essential pillar for promoting social integration, developing motor skills, enhancing communication, and fostering a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Beyond physical benefits, sports instill a sense of responsibility and highlight the vital role people with disabilities play in society.

In line with these values, Warba Sports Club for the Disabled organized an Open Sports Day on Thursday, in collaboration with Al-Raja Boys and Girls Schools. The event brought together secondary school students aged 15 to 19, a crucial age group where nurturing talents and channeling energy into productive outlets like sports can play a transformative role in national development.

The event featured a wide range of sports activities tailored for individuals with motor disabilities. Participants included several Kuwaiti athletes with disabilities who have achieved national and international acclaim in various disciplines. Competitions in tennis, bocce, and badminton drew enthusiastic participation from students, with strong support from their parents and coaches contributing to a spirited and inclusive atmosphere.

The day concluded with the distribution of honorary awards, recognizing the dedication and achievements of the young athletes. The event served as a testament to the progress and potential of Kuwaiti sports for people with disabilities, reinforcing the importance of continued support and inclusion. — KUNA
