MUSCAT: A Kuwaiti sports official reaffirmed the national team’s commitment to achieving commendable results in the tent pegging competitions at the 3rd GCC Beach Games, currently underway in Muscat, Oman. Nayef Al-Osaimi, a member of the Kuwait Tent Pegging and Shooting Committee and head of the Kuwaiti delegation, expressed his confidence in the team’s ability to deliver strong performances befitting the standing of Kuwaiti sports in regional competitions.
Speaking to KUNA, Al-Osaimi said he hoped for exceptional displays from the riders across all categories of the tent pegging event, which began Tuesday and continues for three days. The opening day featured the javelin discipline across individual, doubles and team formats. Wednesday’s contests included saber events in the same formats, while Thursday will mark the conclusion of the competition with additional javelin events, lemon cutting in saber, and both saber and javelin relay categories. The Kuwaiti national team comprises five riders: Hussein Al-Ajmi, Abdullah Al-Hindi, Ibrahim Al-Enezi, Abdullah Al-Daihani and Ghannam Al-Ajmi. The team is supported by head coach Rashid Al-Marri and assistant coach Ali Al-Bin Ali.
Team member Hussein Al-Ajmi, speaking to KUNA, emphasized the riders’ determination to secure podium finishes and represent Kuwait in the best possible manner. He noted that the team had undergone rigorous and continuous training in preparation for the Games, aiming to achieve distinguished results and climb to top positions in the competition. Al-Ajmi underlined the importance of such regional tournaments in enhancing the skills and competitive experience of athletes, through exposure to high-level competition and interaction with riders from across the GCC.
He also expressed gratitude to the Sultanate of Oman for its warm hospitality and the well-organized nature of the tournament, highlighting its role in strengthening Gulf sports cooperation and unity. The 3rd GCC Beach Games kicked off last Saturday and will run through April 11, bringing together 330 athletes from across the region. Kuwait is represented by 65 athletes competing in six of the eight disciplines: beach soccer, beach volleyball, sailing, air sports (paragliding), athletics, and equestrian tent pegging.
