KUWAIT: Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy Dr Sabeeh Al-Mukhaizeem has issued a ministerial decree to form a specialized committee tasked with raising public awareness on the importance of rationalizing electricity and water consumption, particularly during the summer months, as part of broader sustainability efforts.

In a press statement, the ministry said the committee will be chaired by Undersecretary Dr Adel Al-Zamel and will include experts from the ministry along with representatives from the Ministries of Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research, Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Commerce and Industry, and Information. Additional members include representatives from the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET), and the Federation of Kuwaiti Industries.

The ministry emphasized that the committee’s core mandate is to design a comprehensive awareness framework that underscores the significance of reducing electricity and water consumption. The initiative will focus on both environmental sustainability and the preservation of public funds, with programs to be disseminated via traditional and social media platforms.

The committee will also collaborate with civil society organizations and key economic sectors to intensify awareness campaigns during the peak consumption period, which spans from May to September - particularly between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm. Furthermore, the committee will spearhead initiatives to promote energy efficiency and water-saving technologies across various sectors, including residential buildings, industrial facilities, agricultural sites, and public institutions.

Activities will include hosting educational workshops and lectures in universities, schools, and public benefit associations. The statement noted that cooperation with the private sector, as well as scientific and research institutions, will be integral to implementing joint projects. These initiatives will feature the deployment of renewable energy solutions, such as rooftop solar panels, the enhancement of air conditioning systems, and the adoption of modern water conservation technologies. — KUNA
