CAN organizes trip to Failaka to support female cancer survivors

KUWAIT: Dr Iman Al-Shammari, Secretary of (CAN) Campaign and Chairperson of the Makin Club Committee, said that as part of the campaign’s firm commitment to support cancer patients and promote their psychological and social recovery, the National Cancer Awareness Campaign (CAN), organized a “Trip of Hope” to Failaka Island, as part of Makin Club’s efforts to support cancer patients.

Psychiatrist and Makin Club committee member Nadia Al-Obaidi explained that this initiative embodies the club’s mission to provide psychological support and promote emotional recovery for recovering women, as the trip included many entertaining and educational programs, including positive psychological support sessions, interactive competitions, and exploratory tours in the heritage village. Participants also enjoyed a kayaking trip, a horseback ride, and a visit to the zoo, creating a unique atmosphere that fostered the spirit of adventure and connection with nature.

These various activities aimed to boost self-confidence, build social bonds, and provide a safe and comfortable environment that contributes to improving the participants’ mental health. Dr Nadia Al-Mahmoud confirmed that the trip received a wide positive response from the recovering women, who expressed their happiness with this unique experience, and sent positive and influential messages to the Makin Club group, reflecting feelings of gratitude and happiness, and confirming the impact of this event in enhancing their hope and optimism.

Dr Sheikha Al-Obaidly explained that such initiatives represent an essential step in the journey of recovery, as they contribute to encouraging recovering women to adopt a positive outlook on life and instill the values of hope and optimism, which reflects positively on their quality of life. Dr Al-Obaidly also encouraged doctors who specialize in treating cancer patients at all stages of treatment to join the Makin Club to share their advice with patients and survivors. The “Journey of Hope” was not just a recreational trip, but an exceptional experience that brought smiles back to the faces of the recovering women and emphasized that psychological and social support is an integral part of the healing journey.
