BERLIN: The Kuwait Association for Parents of Persons with Disabilities participated in the civil society organizations sessions at the third World Disability Summit organized by the Federal Republic of Germany in cooperation with the Kingdom of Jordan and the International Disability Alliance (IDA), which kicked off in Berlin. The association’s delegation includes Rehab Borsali, Chairman of the Board of Directors and member of the official Kuwaiti delegation to the summit, General Assembly member Eman Al-Jaber, player Maryam Thiab and her sister Amna Thiab.
Rehab Borsali stressed that the keenness of the Kuwaiti Association for People with Disabilities to participate in the summit reflects the vitality of Kuwaiti civil society organizations working in the field of disability and their ability to keep abreast of all global efforts and ideas to improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities and participate effectively in shaping the future of this segment, and to transfer the pioneering Kuwaiti experience in supporting and caring for persons with disabilities to achieve the sustainable development goals issued by the United Nations in 2015 and translate the “New Kuwait 2035” vision to provide a decent life for all segments of society, indicating that the summit that includes government officials from around the world and leaders in the field of disability.
She added that the participation of civil society organizations is an essential part of turning the World Disability Summit into an effective platform to achieve tangible changes in favor of people with disabilities through the role that these organizations play in promoting the rights of people with disabilities and their ability to provide practical visions and proposals that contribute to the development of policies and programs and highlight the challenges faced by people with disabilities, such as social marginalization, access to education and work, and participation in public life, in addition to civil society organizations presenting their successful experiences and best practices adopted in various countries to improve the quality of life. Through this participation, it is possible to influence global plans and trends, ensuring that the policies of states and international organizations are inclusive and meet the needs of this group.
