WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump hosted an iftar at the White House on Thursday, marking the first such event of his administration. During the gathering, Trump expressed gratitude to Muslim voters for their support in the 2024 presidential election and reiterated his administration’s commitment to expanding the so-called Abraham Accords — a series of normalization agreements between the Zionist entity and Arab states.
“As we honor the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, let me begin by saying to our Muslim friends — we have many here tonight, and I believe we have many around the world, as seen in Michigan and other places — I just want to extend my greetings to all those who supported us so strongly. Ramadan Mubarak,” Trump said.
He acknowledged the significant role of Muslim American voters in his re-election bid. “I want to extend a very special thanks to the hundreds of thousands of Muslim Americans who supported us in record numbers in the 2024 election. It was incredible. We started a little slow, but we built strong connections. The Muslim community stood with us in November, and as long as I am president, I will stand with you,” he stated.
Trump also reaffirmed his administration’s efforts in the Middle East. “We are keeping our promises to the Muslim community,” he said. “My administration remains committed to relentless diplomacy aimed at achieving lasting peace in the region. We are continuing to build upon the historic Abraham Accords — agreements once deemed impossible — and now we are working on expanding them.” The event, attended by dignitaries and members of the Muslim community, comes amid ongoing discussions about the future of US engagement in the region. — Agencies
