KUWAIT: The English School (TES) held “Math Week,” an annual event aimed at highlighting the role of math in various professions. Guest speakers from different fields were invited to discuss how their careers rely on mathematics. Kuwait Times provided an engaging session on the connection between mathematics and journalism. During the session, Jana Alnaqeeb, Head of PR and CSR Manager at Kuwait Times and Kuwait News emphasized the importance of math in fact-checking, analyzing election results, understanding demographics, and crafting interesting headlines for the readers.

Alnaqeeb also discussed the role of math in photojournalism, where lighting and subject distance are calculated to prevent blurring and achieve better shots for articles. Later, students had the opportunity to put the discussion into practice, applying mathematical principles in their photo-shooting. TES’s Math Week activities showed the children that math can be applied in fun, practical, and engaging ways and it is more than just numbers but rather a fundamental tool that influences many aspects of daily life and careers.
