In a heartfelt farewell ceremony held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, the African Diplomatic Corps, led by its Dean, Ambassador Dr Al-Aref Sayed Hassan, gathered to honor the departing Ambassadors of Niger and Botswana.
Ambassador Augustin N Makgonatsotlhe of Botswana and Ambassador Tini Hassane of Niger were recognized for their dedication and contributions to strengthening diplomatic ties between their nations and Kuwait. The event was attended by ambassadors, diplomats, and distinguished guests who celebrated the achievements of the departing envoys.
During his speech, Ambassador Dr Al-Aref Sayed Hassan highlighted the impact of both diplomats on fostering bilateral cooperation and their active participation in political, cultural, and sporting events within the diplomatic community. “Your personal and active engagement has been remarkable. You have not only strengthened relations between your countries and Kuwait but have also played a key role in advancing African unity and collaboration,” he stated.

The ceremony also provided an opportunity to commend the recent leadership appointments within the African Union. Ambassador Dr Al-Aref congratulated President Joao Lourenço of Angola on assuming the chairmanship of the African Union for 2025 and praised Mahmoud Ali Youssouf of Djibouti on his election as Chairperson of the African Union Commission. Their leadership, he noted, represents hope for Africa’s progress and an enhanced role on the global stage.
In closing remarks, Ambassador Dr Al-Aref extended appreciation to the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its continuous support of diplomatic missions. As a gesture of gratitude, commemorative gifts were presented to the departing ambassadors, marking their legacy in Kuwait and the African diplomatic community. The event concluded with warm wishes for their future endeavors and hopes for continued collaboration among African nations.
