Worshippers gather for prayers during last 10 nights of Ramadan

Al-Wasmi applauds employees and volunteers, calls for continued dedication to serving worshippers

KUWAIT: Scores of worshippers across Kuwait gathered on Thursday night to perform qiyam prayers, marking the 21st night of the blessed month of Ramadan. As the last ten nights of the holy month began, the atmosphere in mosques was filled with faith and spirituality. Men, women, and children joined in this sunnah (prophetic tradition), following the guidance of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who said, “The honor of a believer lies in his night prayer.”

Qiyam refers to the voluntary night prayers in Islam, particularly the prayers offered during the night, including during the last ten nights of Ramadan. The word “qiyam” comes from the Arabic root word “qama,” meaning “to stand,” and thus, “qiyam” signifies standing in prayer. In Ramadan, the qiyam prayers are especially emphasized. The last ten nights of Ramadan are particularly significant, as they may include Laylat al-Qadr, the “Night of Decree,” which is believed to be the night when the Quran was revealed. Worshippers increase their devotion during this time, performing qiyam to seek closeness to Allah. In a deeply spiritual and humble ambiance, worshippers prayed and supplicated, seeking Allah’s mercy and acceptance for their fasting, prayers, and good deeds.

On Friday, Dr Mohammad Al-Wasmi, the Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, praised the successful organization of Ramadan prayers and events by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs. In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Al-Wasmi shared details of his visit to several key mosques, including Bilal bin Rabah Mosque in Hawalli Governorate, the Bin Taymiyyah Mosque Center, and the Wabisa bin Ma’bad Mosque Center in Sabah Al-Ahmad City. The visit was aimed at reviewing the preparations and ensuring the readiness to receive worshippers during the final ten nights of Ramadan.

Minister Al-Wasmi emphasized that the Ministry of Islamic Affairs had worked diligently prior to the start of Ramadan to ensure all necessary preparations were in place to accommodate worshippers. He highlighted the ministry’s commitment to maintaining comprehensive readiness in its services throughout the month. He also noted that the concept of Ramadan centers, launched by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs years ago, has evolved significantly over time. Today, these centers are fully equipped to welcome thousands of worshippers each night during the last ten nights of Ramadan. Al-Wasmi urged employees in the mosque sector and volunteers at the Ramadan centers to continue their hard work and contribute to the ongoing success of these efforts. — Agencies
