Kuwait’s Direct Aid Society distributes aid in Sudan, Yemen

PORT SUDAN/ADEN: The Kuwait Direct Society distributed 1,900 food baskets on Thursday to support thousands affected by the war in Sudan, specifically in the Red Sea, Kassala, and South Kordofan states. The Country Director of the Kuwait Direct Aid Society in Sudan, Ahmed Al-Sheikh, stated that the new aid included 1,300 food baskets distributed to displaced individuals in Port Sudan and Kassala in eastern Sudan, as well as 600 food baskets in the city of Deling in South Kordofan.

Al-Sheikh explained that the aid would benefit over 10,000 people, with each basket providing enough to cover a family’s needs for a month. Each basket consists of 10 kilograms of sugar, 10 kilograms of corn flour, five kilograms of wheat flour, four liters of cooking oil, and other food items.

He added that the association aims to reach as many beneficiaries as possible as security improves in the country, and expressed gratitude and appreciation to Kuwait for its ongoing humanitarian support. The aid also reached the refugee camp in Um Qura in the Red Sea state, as part of the association’s project to assist displaced individuals in affected areas.

This initiative is part of the Direct Aid Scoeity’s programs, which include providing iftar meals for this year, as well as humanitarian interventions and food basket distributions for the poor and those affected by the war. The Kuwaiti Direct Aid Society also launched Thursday its Iftar Project, which includes the distribution of 3,800 food baskets to low-income families in three Yemeni governorates, as part of the ongoing “Kuwait is By Your Side” campaign for the tenth consecutive year.

Ali Bitaat, the Regional Director of the Direct Aid Society’s Yemen office, stated that the project aims to distribute 3,800 food baskets containing essential items to meet the needs of the beneficiary families, which include around 26,600 people throughout the month of Ramadan.

He added that the project is part of the humanitarian efforts made by the Direct Aid Society to support the most vulnerable and affected groups amid the economic and social challenges facing Yemen.

Bitaat expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the donors and supporters who contributed to the success of this humanitarian initiative, which alleviates the suffering of thousands of families during the blessed month of Ramadan. — KUNA
