From bedtime tales to published fantasy

In the ever-expanding world of literature, Sujata Krishnan is a fresh voice with a unique perspective. Her words craft an engaging narrative filled with vibrant characters and insightful themes. Recently, she released her debut fantasy novel, “The Dynamic Doorway”, a story that blends the charm of a classic fairy tale with a contemporary twist.

Originally from Mumbai, India, Sujata spent her entire childhood and early youth in Kuwait. She worked in administrative roles for several prominent Kuwaiti organizations before moving to Sydney for a few years. Eventually, she returned to the Gulf and is now settled in Dubai.

A proud alumna of Carmel School Kuwait, Sujata credits her love for writing to one of her English teachers, who encouraged her to expand her vocabulary and embrace descriptive writing. As a teenager, she often penned poems and journaled her thoughts and emotions. Today, she spends her spare time singing, socializing and indulging her passion for the arts, especially the performing arts. She’s also an active social media enthusiast.

In 2010, after relocating to Dubai, Sujata took on full-time motherhood. One of her daily duties became telling bedtime stories to her son, who refused to sleep without them. This nightly ritual stretched her imagination, as he often demanded sequels or repeated episodes. One day, he innocently urged her to write down one of his favorite stories so he could read it anytime. Though that story wasn’t recorded at the time, the idea of writing a book quietly took root.

Observing how fantasy captured children’s imaginations, Sujata recognized its power to spark curiosity while subtly imparting positive values. Fantasy, she felt, provided infinite possibilities — a way to explore hidden desires and teach resilience in an engaging format.

Known for her optimistic and cheerful demeanor, Sujata has faced her share of emotional challenges yet remains upbeat. She places great importance on children’s wellbeing, often weaving uplifting life lessons into the stories she shared with her son.

Her debut novel, “The Dynamic Doorway”, began as one such bedtime story. What started as a short story assignment for her son’s school eventually evolved into a full-length novel. Reflecting Sujata’s own spirit, the protagonist — an American boy of Indian descent — embodies positivity and resilience as he navigates a multiverse filled with fantastical beings and unimaginable experiences.

The story unfolds like an immersive VR game, sweeping readers into parallel worlds while grounding them in genuine emotional relatability. At its core, the novel emphasizes emotional growth, teaching young readers the value of hope and strength in life’s challenges.

Sujata believes that today’s children can greatly benefit from such stories, helping them adopt a positive mindset in an increasingly stressful world. And it’s not just for kids — she feels even adults who wish to reconnect with their inner child will enjoy “The Dynamic Doorway”.
