KUWAIT: National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) celebrated Girgian with the students of Mohammed Alshaya Elementary School for Boys, in a highly engaging atmosphere bringing together the students and teaching staff. NBK team distributed Girgian to all students and teachers, in a special event marking the traditional Girgian celebration. The event also witnessed a variety of entertainment activities that enhance the students’ belonging to their community, as the distribution of Girgian is a popular tradition that aims to revive the cultural and heritage values of the Kuwaiti community.
This celebration underscores NBK’s steadfast dedication to engaging in social and humanitarian activities and delivering its responsibility towards all sectors of society. It also demonstrates the special support extended to the schools and students participating in the “Bankee” program, who expressed their happiness with this event, appreciating NBK’s efforts in sponsoring such initiatives and activities.
Commenting on this, Asma Bin Hussain, Specialist - Public Relations and Event Management at National Bank of Kuwait, said, “We are constantly striving to be at the forefront of socially responsible organizations by participation in a wide range of events and activities.” “We are always keen to support schools participating in the Bankee program, which aims to familiarize students with fundamental economic concepts and practices such as earning, spending, saving and financial obligations,” she added.
Bin Hussain noted that “Bankee” effectively contributed to raising students’ financial awareness, as witnessed by parents and teachers, noting that instilling core values in students like honesty, integrity, personal development, accountability, cooperation and teamwork are among the program’s key objectives, as it aims to raise a generation of Kuwaiti youth capable of contributing to achieving sustainable development and economic welfare for individuals and society.
On their part, the administration of Mohammed Al Shaya Elementary School for Boys expressed its appreciation for NBK’s efforts in supporting education and cultivating positive concepts in the younger generations. NBK firmly believes that public-private partnerships to provide the young generation with the required knowledge and skills are instrumental to individual as well as social wellbeing and prosperity.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, and Kuwait Anticorruption Authority (Nazaha), “Bankee” is the first program of its kind introduced by NBK for the society, as part of the endeavors to promote financial inclusion among students in schools, to ensure increasing and sustaining financial literacy among the members of society in the future. The program aims to familiarize students with fundamental economic concepts and practices, and to cultivate financial culture in an interactive and engaging manner using the classroom economy model. It is worth mentioning that NBK was awarded the Bronze Award by Qorus in the Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) category for Bankee Program, recognizing its innovative efforts in integrating sustainability and ESG standards into its initiatives.
