KUWAIT: Kuwaiti schools revived the country’s major traditional Ramadan custom, known as girgian with children putting on colorful and cheerful traditional costumes especially for this occasion. Girgian is a joyful occasion that reflects popular, cultural and social heritage, embodies the spirit of social solidarity and brings happiness to children and families. The word “girgian” in the Kuwaiti dialect comes out of the sound of drums used by children to mark this traditional occasion. — KUNA
