Kuwait, China discuss cooperation in field of social welfare

NEW YORK: Kuwait’s Minister of Social Affairs and Minister of State for Family and Childhood Affairs Dr Amthal Al-Huwailah, reaffirmed on Wednesday the depth of the relationship between Kuwait and China, which has spanned over 55 years. She expressed her hope to strengthen the existing cooperation between the two countries in the fields of social welfare and family development.

This came during Al-Huwailah’s meeting with the Chinese Minister and Vice Chairperson of the National Working Committee on Children and Women under the State Council, Huang Xiaowei, on the sidelines of the 69th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. Both sides discussed ways to support and empower women in society and to enhance social services provided to families.

During the meeting, Al-Huwailah highlighted Kuwait’s policies to support women in the areas of social welfare and the services provided to promote family stability and offer support to mothers and children. She pointed out that Kuwait’s experience in delivering such services aims to achieve social justice and strengthen social cohesion. Both parties expressed their mutual desire to enhance bilateral cooperation in the field of social welfare, exchange expertise in supporting families and empowering women, and develop joint mechanisms in areas such as social protection, professional training, and support for vulnerable groups. — KUNA
