KUWAIT: The International Women’s Group (IWG), in collaboration with the Embassy of Palestine, hosted a Ramadan ghabga under the theme “Palestine – The History and Civilization” at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The event brought together members of Kuwait’s diplomatic corps, government officials, and IWG members in a gathering that celebrated Palestine’s rich heritage and cultural legacy.
IWG President Polina Dlamini, wife of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Eswatini, expressed her gratitude to the Embassy of Palestine and IWG member Rima Khalidi, wife of the Palestinian Ambassador, for organizing the event. She emphasized the significance of Palestine’s history and its deep-rooted connection with its indigenous people. The evening commenced with a moment of silence in remembrance of the martyrs of Palestine.
In his opening remarks, the Ambassador of Palestine, Rami Tahboub, extended his congratulations to the leadership and people of Kuwait on the occasion of the Holy Month of Ramadan. He paid tribute to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. Ambassador Tahboub also acknowledged International Women’s Day and expressed his appreciation to IWG’s executive board for providing a platform to host the Palestinian Ramadan ghabga. He then briefed attendees on the current situation in Palestine and its profound impact on the Palestinian people.








The program, expertly led by master of ceremonies Rima Khalidi, featured an in-depth exploration of Palestine’s history, culture and civilization. A visual presentation of artworks by renowned Palestinian artist Suleiman Mansour accompanied the proceedings, enhancing the cultural ambiance of the evening. Guests were treated to screenings highlighting Palestinian Ramadan traditions in Jerusalem and a feature titled “Welcome to Palestine,” showcasing the nation’s historical, religious and cultural landmarks.
The program also included a performance by “Daughters of Jerusalem,” an all-female ensemble of young Palestinian musicians and artists. Additionally, three inspiring Palestinian women were featured in a documentary, highlighting their remarkable contributions in their respective fields. Another screening presented the ancient city of Jericho, known as the world’s oldest continuously inhabited city and a significant agricultural hub. Attendees also viewed a short documentary on the traditional production of Nabulsi soap.
Adding to the cultural experience, IWG member Shireen Hattar performed the song “Haddiya Bahar,” accompanied by oud player Ra’fat Al Jada’. The event continued with a Palestinian fashion showcase featuring the music of composer Clarissa Bitar. The demonstration celebrated the beauty of traditional Palestinian embroidery, tracing its origins to the Canaanite era. The highlight of the evening was a captivating performance by Shabab Falasteen Folklore Troupe, who delighted the audience with the Palestinian Dabkeh dance, incorporating elements of a traditional Palestinian wedding.
The program concluded with a presentation on Palestinian cuisine and its intrinsic connection to the land, particularly olive trees. Each dish reflected a deep cultural and historical significance. Interactive stations offered attendees an immersive experience into Palestinian heritage, featuring a henna corner, live Qatayef-making, a traditionally dressed carob vendor, and displays of Palestinian handicrafts. The evening culminated with a feast of authentic Palestinian cuisine, thoughtfully prepared by the chefs of the Crowne Plaza Hotel, leaving guests with a profound appreciation for Palestine’s enduring legacy.
