KUWAIT: Minister of Health Dr Ahmad Al-Awadhi reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to enhancing technical and professional performance while preparing new generations of doctors in both the public and private sectors. He emphasized that this initiative is a cornerstone in elevating Kuwait’s healthcare services and advancing the medical sector.
Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) during the Ramadan Ghabqa hosted by the Kuwait Medical Association, Minister Al-Awadhi highlighted the Ministry of Health’s continuous efforts to develop medical professionals. These efforts include ongoing medical education, inviting visiting doctors, and collaborating with leading international institutions — all in alignment with the ministry’s dedication to delivering top-tier healthcare services.
He stressed that investing in human capital and providing essential support for training national medical cadres are integral to the ministry’s strategic plan. This commitment is aimed at achieving excellence in scientific research to better serve patients and ease their suffering, thereby reinforcing the health sector and strengthening Kuwait’s global medical standing.
Minister Al-Awadhi commended the efficiency of national medical professionals, noting their significant contributions to global scientific research. He emphasized that their achievements have gained international recognition, with their work featured in prestigious medical and research journals. Acknowledging the exceptional caliber of Kuwaiti medical professionals, he underscored the importance of safeguarding doctors’ rights and fostering a conducive work environment that encourages professional growth.
He also lauded the collaboration between the Ministry of Health, the Kuwait Medical Association, and other medical organizations. “Our presence at the Doctors’ House Ghabqa today underscores the importance of unity and communication within the medical community. This gathering strengthens professional bonds and highlights our collective commitment to healthcare excellence. I extend my gratitude to our doctors for their unwavering dedication to their humanitarian mission, which is unparalleled in any other profession,” he stated. Minister Al-Awadhi reiterated that doctors serve as the first line of defense in society, playing a crucial role in saving lives and providing essential healthcare services to all patients.
Chairman of the Kuwait Medical Association, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Tawala, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing that the annual Ramadan Ghabqa is a long-standing tradition aimed at fostering camaraderie among medical professionals in a relaxed setting away from workplace pressures.
Dr. Al-Tawala highlighted that the medical profession goes beyond patient care; it is a solemn duty to serve the community. He commended the dedication and daily sacrifices of doctors, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, where their commitment was instrumental in Kuwait’s successful response to the crisis. He pointed out that while some countries experience delays and congestion in healthcare services, Kuwait stands out for its efficiency in scheduling medical appointments, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures, ranking among the fastest worldwide.
However, Dr Al-Tawala acknowledged the challenge of “continuous fatigue” among doctors, a global concern that necessitates sustainable solutions. He emphasized that excessive workloads and stress could impact doctors’ health and performance, underscoring the need for a fair and supportive work environment that mitigates burnout and ensures the well-being of medical professionals. — KUNA
