Kuwait records remarkable rise in cancer recovery rate

Makin Club supports cancer survivors in Kuwait

KUWAIT: At the first meeting of the Makin Club - National Cancer Awareness Campaign (CAN), Dr Eman Al-Shammari emphasized that Kuwait is witnessing a remarkable rise in cancer recovery rates, reflecting the significant progress in modern medical treatments. The Kuwait Cancer Control Center records about 2,995 new cancer cases annually, according to its statistics for 2019, and women constitute a large percentage of these cases. The number of women with cancer has reached 1,418 cases, which highlights the importance of intensifying efforts in the fields of awareness, early screening, and therapeutic and psychological support.

Within the framework of psychosocial support for female survivors, the National Cancer Awareness Campaign organized a Ramadan meeting at the Makin Club, inaugurated by the Minister of Social, Family and Childhood Affairs, Dr Amthal Al-Huwailah, in February. The meeting provided an opportunity to enhance communication among survivors and exchange experiences. The Makin Club continues its efforts to provide psychological support courses for new cancer patients, organized by psychologist Nadia Al-Obaidi. The women praised the Makin Club course, adding that it has had a great positive impact on newly diagnosed cancer patients, in addition to attracting more recovering women to participate in its various activities.

Dr. Nadia Al-Mahmoud also explained that Kuwait is considered one of the leading countries in providing psychological and spiritual support to cancer patients. Dr. Shaikha Al-Obaidli, the Head of the Medical Physics Unit at the Kuwait Cancer Control Center and a member of the Makin Club, explained that CAN’s campaign has established psychological consultation rooms in cooperation with the Social Service Center at the Kuwait Cancer Control Center, aiming to provide psychological and spiritual support to cancer patients, along with guidance and support for those affected by it.

In a related context, Bodour Al-Saeed opened the month of Ramadan with a special spiritual lecture for recovering patients, focusing on the importance of faith and optimism in the journey of recovery, which reflects the comprehensive attention to the psychological and spiritual aspects of patients. Thus, the CAN campaign continues to strengthen its efforts to support cancer patients at various levels, contributing to improving the quality of life for patients and survivors alike, calling on survivors to join the Makin Club by contacting 65070469 to benefit from the club’s services. CAN will continue to enhance its efforts to support cancer patients at various levels.
