Kuwait equips Great Omari Mosque

Al-Najat Society launches project to distribute 10,000 iftar meals daily in Gaza

RAMALLAH: Kuwait’s Namaa Charitable Society announced on Sunday that it has equipped the internal prayer hall in the Great Omari Mosque in the Gaza Strip to receive worshipers during the holy month of Ramadan and to perform Tarawih prayers there. Deputy CEO of Namaa, Abdulaziz Al-Kandari, stated in a press announcement that equipping the prayer hall is in response to the needs of the people of Gaza to perform prayers in the mosque, which faces infrastructure challenges due to the difficult conditions the Strip endures, especially in light of the ongoing occupation aggression.

Al-Kandari added that the equipment works, carried out in partnership with the Palestine Tomorrow Society for Community Development, included providing new carpets and rugs for the internal prayer hall, improving the sound and lighting systems to ensure a spiritual atmosphere during prayers, supplying fans and air conditioners for the comfort of worshipers and rehabilitating toilets and ablution areas to accommodate large numbers of worshipers during Ramadan.

He stated that mosques are not only places of worship, but also “spiritual, social, and scientific gathering centers.” He hopes that this project will contribute to creating a suitable environment for worshipers during Ramadan and strengthening the connection of the people of Gaza to their mosques. He explained that Namaa Charity is keen to localize charitable work by supporting mosques and Islamic centers while enhancing their role in society, stressing its constant endeavor to implement sustainable development projects that have a real impact on the lives of beneficiaries.

Al-Kandari praised the support provided by the charitable individuals in Kuwait and their eagerness to help their brothers in Gaza and other needy countries, calling for ongoing support for the association’s projects to achieve the desired positive impact. The Great Omari Mosque is one of the oldest and most prestigious mosques in Palestine, as its establishment dates back to the era of the Islamic conquest of the Levant.

It is the third-largest mosque in Palestine after Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and Ahmed Pasha Al-Jazzar Mosque in Acre. The mosque is located in the heart of the old city of Gaza in the Daraj neighborhood, southeast of Palestine Square, next to the Qaisariya Market (Gold Market) and the historic Al-Zawiya Market, making it one of the most prominent Islamic and historical landmarks in the Gaza Strip.

10,000 iftar meals daily

In another development, Kuwait’s Al-Najat Charitable Society has launched a project to distribute 10,000 iftar meals daily in the Gaza Strip throughout the holy month of Ramadan, as part of the “Iftar for a Million Fasting People” campaign, which is implemented annually in various Islamic countries. The Palestinian Wafa Foundation for Development and Capacity Building, the implementing body of the project in Gaza, stated that the meals will continue to be distributed daily throughout the holy month of Ramadan to camps for displaced and affected families in the north and south of the Strip.

This initiative aims to alleviate suffering, extend a helping hand, and promote the principles of solidarity and brotherhood. It added that the campaign organized the longest Ramadan table in the southern Gaza Strip on Saturday, the first day of Ramadan, where more than 3,000 fasting people gathered at the iftar table, in addition to another table in the north of the Strip that included more than a thousand fasting people in an atmosphere that reflects the spirit of solidarity and social unity . — KUNA
