KUWAIT: Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated its opposition to any illegitimate measures that could be taken outside the framework of the state institutions of Sudan. Any attempts at a political settlement that overstep Sudan’s state institutions will be considered an illegitimate intervention in Sudan’s domestic affairs and a threat to its unity, the Ministry said in a press release. Stressing the need to protect Sudan’s institutions, sovereignty, national unity, and territorial integrity, the State of Kuwait urges all parties involved in Sudan’s civil war to abide by the provisions of the Jeddah Declaration of May 2023, it added.
Additionally, Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the UN and Other International Organizations, Ambassador Nasser Al-Hayen, stated that the GCC States feel regret over the ongoing conflict and escalation of violence affecting civilians, women, and children in Sudan. Serving as chairman of the council of the GCC member states’ ambassadors during dialogue with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on the situation in Sudan, Al-Hayen renewed his call for the parties involved in the dispute to adhere to international humanitarian law and the principles of human rights to protect civilians.
He also emphasized the importance of implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2736 and an immediate ceasefire. The GCC States are concerned about the impact of starvation on the disastrous humanitarian situation, calling for concerted international efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people. In this context, Al-Hayen urged all parties to ensure the removal of all obstacles, affirming the need for commitment to the ceasefire agreement and humanitarian truce in line with the Jeddah Declaration in a manner that allows urgent humanitarian aid access to those in need.
Furthermore, the ambassador highlighted the GCC States’ unwavering commitment to ending the crisis and maintaining Sudan’s sovereignty, stability, and territorial integrity to help the country confront the repercussions of this plight. It is imperative to achieve calm and prioritize dialogue and the unification of the Sudanese people above all else, while returning to the path of the political process to establish civil authority and end the suffering of the Sudanese people, Al-Hayen stated.
Meanwhile, Kuwait’s International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO) and the Patients Helping Fund Society have launched an integrated project to support healthcare and water services in Sudan. The project includes a surgical camp and the provision of solar energy units to support water plants and health institutions in Gedaref, River Nile, and Khartoum to enhance medical services and improve health infrastructure. While inaugurating the scheme in Gedaref, Minister of Health and Social Development Ahmad Al-Amin Adam emphasized that these initiatives are a key pillar in supporting the health system, as the State is hosting approximately three million displaced people from conflict areas.
Such projects aim to alleviate burdens on healthcare facilities and address humanitarian challenges, he noted, thanking Kuwait, the IICO, and the society for their ongoing support. The society‘s executive director in Sudan, Dr Abdulmajid Fadlallah, mentioned that the project includes conducting 200 surgeries and installing solar systems to ensure sustainable water and healthcare services in the targeted areas. — KUNA
