LONDON: Kuwaiti photographer Mohammad Murad won third place in 2025 World Nature Photographer of the Year for his photo titled “Sword in the Chest”, competing with photographers from around 50 countries in 14 different categories. Murad told KUNA on Monday that the photo he took in the competition shows a fight between terns in the air, as he took it on Kuwait’s Kubbar Island. He explained that there are three types of terns that mate and nest on Kubbar Island from May to August each year. Murad, who won the bronze medal, pointed out that he is interested in preserving the natural environment by photographing wildlife, especially birds, mainly in Kuwait and in a number of European and African countries. Mohammad Murad has won numerous international awards in high-level wildlife photography competitions.

He was awarded the 2025 World Nature Photographer of the Year Award for his photo titled “Sword in the Chest”, which was taken in November 2016 on Kubbar Island in Kuwait. In 2023 Japanese imaging giant Canon Europe, Middle East and Africa has selected Murad, the first wildlife photographer in the Arab region, as an ambassador for its ‘Canon Ambassadors Program’. ‘The World Nature Photographer of the Year’ competition, based in the United Kingdom, is one of the largest annual global competitions concerned with nature conservation. — KUNA
